Treatex® Hardwax Oil Traditional Repair

Treatex® Hardwax Oil is easily spot repairable using the method explained below. In contrast, traditional floor finishes such as a varnish or a lacquer are not spot-repairable, so in order to repair any damage it is necessary to completely sand down and re-finish the whole floor. Repair 1

The above picture shows a piece of Oak treated with Treatex® Hardwax Oil Ebony and Clear with a deep scratch in the surface.

Repair 2

To repair sand the damaged area finishing with 120-150 grit (if you know the grade finish originally used then finish to that standard.) It is important to sand with the grain and to “feather out” the sanding to the edge of the repair.

Repair 3

Carefully lightly apply Treatex® Hardwax Oil Ebony using a brush – again feathering in the edges where you have not sanded. Allow to dry, and then finish with Treatex® Hardwax Oil Clear making sure you leave no stop marks. The marks that can be seen here were too deep to sand out without leaving a hollowed surface.
