Treatex® Water-Based Floor Lacquer

LacquerTreatex® Water-based Floor Lacquer is a highly durable surface treatment for parquet and wooden flooring. Our Lacquer is available in 1 pack or 2 pack form. 2 pack lacquer comes with Treatex® Floor Hardener, an additive that makes the lacquer extremely hardwearing. Both 1 pack and 2 pack lacquer come in three different sheen levels, matt, satin or gloss.

  • Hardwearing.
  • Quick drying.
  • Good flow for a smooth, level surface.
  • Lightfast - Light will not yellow or change natural wood colour.
  • Highly resistant to household chemicals such as cleaning agents, fizzy drinks, beer, wine, coffee etc.

Usage

We recommend our 2 pack lacquer for high traffic flooring such as offices, shops and public halls and 1 pack lacquer for flooring that receives regular to frequent use including living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms.

Preparation

Before applying Treatex® Water-based Floor Lacquer a coat of Treatex® Floor Primer should be applied to minimise the risk of 'edge gluing'.

Sand the surface with 80-120 grit sandpaper (collect sanding dust it will be needed later.)
Lacquer FillingFill in joints up to 3mm in width and small defects using a scraper with a mixture of Treatex® Floor Filler and the dust collected from sanding.
The floor filler will dry in approx 60-90 minutes depending on room temperature and air humidity.
Sand the whole surface again with 120 grit sandpaper taking care to remove any excess of floor filler.
Ensure the surface is dry, dust free and completely free from any impurities including oil, wax etc.
To prime the surface apply 100-120g per m2 of Treatex® Floor Primer with a roller.
Under normal circumstances drying time is 90-120 minutes.
No need to sand between primer and first coat of lacquer.

Application

Lacquer RollingFor the first coat apply 100-120g per m2 of Treatex® Water-based Lacquer* to the surface with a Treatex®roller.
Allow to dry for 2-3 hours (guide values for a room at 20oc and 65% relative air humidity.)
Sand with 240 grit sandpaper.
Ensure the surface is dust free and completely free from any impurities.
Apply with a Treatex® Roller a second coat of Treatex® Water-based Lacquer*, again allowing 100-120g per m2.
The surface will reach its final hardness after roughly 10 days.
After 14 days we recommend the surface be treated with Treatex® Varnish Cleaner, 1 part diluted with 5 parts water, to increase the life of the finish.

*If you have chosen to use Treatex® 2 Pack Lacquer Water-based then thoroughly mix 1 part Treatex® Floor Hardener with 10 parts Treatex® 2 Pack Water-based Floor Lacquer before application. Do not use any electrical mixing equipment as this may form air bubbles. Mix only sufficient for one coat as the hardener-lacquer solution will only remain usable for up to 3 hours once mixed.

Please Note

Do not use if floor, lacquer or room temperatures are below 15oc.
Before commencing we recommend a small trial application.
Protect container from frost.

Cleaning and Maintenance

To prolong the life of your surface we recommend regular cleaning with Treatex® Varnish Cleaner which contains vegetable oils and carnauba wax and is designed to help maintain floors finished with Treatex® Water-based Lacquer without making them slippery. Treatex® Varnish Cleaner has a neutral PH value, contains no solvents and is environmentally friendly.

For everyday dirt and dust dilute 25-50ml of the product in 5 litres of water. Apply using a mop ensuring the mop is damp but not wet. Stains can also be removed with Treatex® Varnish Cleaner or in severe cases with white spirit.

Depending on how frequently your floor is used it will require thorough maintenance once or twice per year. To do this mix 5 parts water to 1 part Treatex® Varnish Cleaner and apply thinly and evenly over the surface using a damp but not wet mop.
