Larch Oil

Our natural Larch Oil is perfect for preventing weathering damage. With a high UV resistance, water resistance and a no flaking policy, this is a perfect treatment for Cedar or Larch materials. It can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications, and also works best on unfinished timber. If you’re applying our Larch oil to a timber that is susceptible to decay, fungi or wood rot, we would recommend using a preservative first.

We recommend two coats of our Treatex Larch Oil, and you should leave this to dry for approximately 12 hours to achieve the desired effect and protection.

With no biocides or toxic ingredients, our Larch Oil is safe for use on children’s toys.

It is important to note that our Larch Oil treatment is not suitable for timbers with a high Tannin count, such as Oak.

Preparation/Application

Preparation

Treatex Larch Oil works best on unfinished timber. Previous finishes which stop Treatex Larch Oil penetrating into the timber (e.g. paint and other ‘closed’ finishes) must be fully removed prior to application. Previous porous finishes should be lightly sanded before overcoating. When overcoating a previously finished surface, a trial application is essential. Flaking or peeling finishes must be fully removed prior to application. Ensure the timber is dry and free from possible contaminates e.g. algae, grease, dirt, dust etc. Timbers susceptible to decay, mould and fungi should be treated first with a suitable preservative. We advise that when using Treatex Larch Oil, sufficient product is purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. Timber must have a moisture content below 18%. Temperature must be between 8º𝖼 and 25º𝖼 during application and drying. We strongly recommend a trial application prior to starting the project.

Application

Stir tins thoroughly, before and during use. Use a brush or roller to evenly apply Treatex Larch Oil in the same direction as the wood grain. Pay particular attention to end grain, on end grain apply liberally. If possible, treat all sides of the timber for the first coat. After approximately 12 hours the first coat can be overcoated. Apply with a brush or roller a second coat of Treatex Larch Oil. After the second coat leave for approximately 12 hours to dry. Treatex Larch Oil is not a surface building product.

Tips

Treatex brushes and rollers are available. Wet brushes and rollers can be cleaned with Treatex Thinner or white spirit. Store tins in a cool and frost free environment. Unopened tins will last for five years. Once tins are opened, transfer contents to smaller airtight container.
