Teak Protection

Teak Protection

For ultimate wood protection from water and UV rays, use Treatex Teak Protection. UV-resistant and highly water-resistant, it’s perfect for outdoor garden furniture or boat deck protection. Treatex Teak Protection will not flake or peel. Solvent free and made only from natural, sustainable elements (such as linseed and sunflower oil), Treatex Teak Protection is also safe to use, even on children’s toys.

This teak furniture protector is only suitable for untreated wood. Previous coatings should be removed and surfaces cleaned, clear of contaminants, and dry. This is in order for Treatex Teak Protection to soak evenly and well into the wood, offering the best all-over protection.

Stir the container thoroughly, before and during use, and apply in the direction of the grain with a brush. The second coat should be applied before the first coat is dry.

1L will cover approximately 15m² in one coat depending on timber and application method.

Preparation/Application

Preparation

Treatex Teak Protection will only work on unfinished timber. Previous finishes must be fully removed prior to application. If timber is grey and weathered then it should be sanded back or cleaned with Treatex Wood Rejuvenator to restore its natural colour before application. Ensure the timber is dry and free from possible contaminates e.g. algae, grease, dirt, dust etc. We advise that when using Treatex Teak Protection, sufficient product is purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. Timber must have a moisture content below 18%. Temperature must be greater than 8º𝚌 during application and drying. A trial application is essential prior to starting the project.

Application

Stir container thoroughly, before and during use. Use a brush to apply Treatex Teak Protection in liberally and evenly in the same direction as the wood grain, allowing approximately 60-70ml per m². This product works best when the second coat is applied ‘wet on wet’. This means a second coat should be applied, in the same way as above, before the first coat is dry. After the second coat leave to dry for approximately 12 hours. If the Teak readily absorbs the the second coat, apply a third coat before the second coat dries (this can be seen in our Teak protection application video on this page).

Tips

  • When treating multiple pieces of garden furniture e.g. a table and chairs, only treat 2 pieces at a time to ensure that the first coat cannot dry fully before applying the second wet on wet coat.

  • We recommend a fresh coat is applied once a year.

  • Treatex brushes are available. Wet brushes can be cleaned with warm soapy water.

  • Store containers in a cool and frost free environment. Unopened containers will last for three years. Once containers are opened, transfer contents to a smaller airtight container.
