What are the benefits of Treatex Hardwax Oil?

There are many reasons why Treatex Hardwax Oil is so great. Here are a few reasons why you should consider buying this hardwax oil for your interior wood finish.

  • It has a warming effect on lighter timbers.

While this hardwax oil provides a clear coat on darker timbers, for lighter timbers it adds a warming effect which is very preferable for many people. Depending on the look you are going for, warmer colours look much more appealing in homes and workspaces.

  • No sanding is required between coats.

Applying oils to wood can be time-consuming, however, one of the benefits of Treatex Hardwax Oil is that you don’t need to sand it between each coat. This makes the application process much faster and ensures the timber is ready quicker.

  • Withstands high temperatures.

Whether used in the kitchen or other areas, using this oil means you are protecting the wood against heat. The hardwax oil can withstand high temperatures so you don’t need to worry about damaging the finish with high temperatures.

Using the right polish makes maintaining timber treated with hardwax oil simple. We offer a Treatex Wax Polish which is compatible with our hardwax oil. This simply and easily brings back the shine of your timber finish whenever you want.

  • Spot repairable.

Should there be any damage caused to your wood finish such as scrapes or marks, these can be easily spot repaired and you don’t need to refinish the entire thing.

  • Safe for use on children’s toys.

As this product doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals or solvents, you don’t need to worry about children being around this product. It is safe to use for everyone.

  • Resistance to spills of water, wine, beer, coffee, tea, fizzy drinks etc

If you find you or your family regularly spill drinks or food, the great news is that Treatex Hardwax Oil is resistant to water, beer, wine, coffee, tea and fizzy drinks, so there’s no need to worry about stains or water damage.

What is the difference between Treatex Hardwax Oil and Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural?

At Treatex we also offer another hardwax oil called Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural. This offers a better option for lighter timbers by using natural white pigments to protect the wood without warming it. So if you would rather use light-coloured timber and not add any warm tones, this is a great choice. T

Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural is still a great wood enhancement product that helps you easily achieve a stunning finish for your timber products. This hardwax oil also only uses natural ingredients such as candelilla, carnauba and beeswax. If you’re searching for a durable and hard-wearing hardwax oil, this is a great option.

Our Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural is easy to use and dries fast - without leaving an odour. It also offers minimal maintenance while keeping your timber durable and enhancing its natural beauty. Our natural hardwax oil can be used for timber floors, worktops, stairs and much more.

A step-by-step guide to using Treatex Hardwax Oil

Applying the Treatex Hardwax Oil is simple. Just follow the steps below to transform your interior timber.

Application Method 1 - when buffing the first coat with a machine

To apply the hardwax oil when buffing the first coat with a machine, use 120-150 grit sandpaper and start with bare timber or previous coats of hardwax oil but nothing else.

  • First, apply a thin coat of hardwax oil using a good-quality roller.

  • Leave the product for 10 minutes.

  • Next, slow buff with a soft pad to remove excess oil.

  • You can then finish using a lint-free cloth under the buffer.

  • Leave for 45 minutes to dry with good ventilation.

  • Apply the final coat with a high-quality microfibre roller - do not buff this coat as there won’t be enough product left on the timber to protect it properly

The finish is usually ready for use after 8 hours or after 18 hours for furniture.

Application Method 2 - when applying with a brush or roller

If you are using a brush or roller, use 100-150 grit sandpaper over a coat of hardwax oil or bare timber.

Apply the first coat using a good quality brush or roller - do not apply thickly - this will result in extended drying times.

  • The first coat will usually be dry within 3-6 hours with good ventilation and airflow.

  • Next, apply the second coat using a good-quality brush or roller.

Same as above, the finish is usually ready for use after 8 hours or for furniture after 18 hours.

Top tips

Here are some tips to improve the application process of your Treatex Hardwax Oil:

  • Make sure you do not apply the product too thickly as you will significantly increase the drying time. You should try to raise the room temperature and increase airflow by opening windows or using a fan.

  • If you are unsure if you have the right equipment for the application, at Treatex we stock great quality brushes and rollers perfect for your hardwax oil application. If in doubt, make sure you use high-quality microfibre rollers or brushes.

  • While waiting in between coats, place your brushes and rollers in a plastic bag to prevent them from drying out.

  • To clean your brushes and rollers, use Treatex Thinners or white spirit.

Self-combustion: Treatex contains Linseed oil just like other natural oil-based products. You should make sure to empty the sawdust of your mechanical sander before working with anything that has a freshly applied linseed oil-based product. This is because there is a small but possible risk of self-combustion.
