Stain Inhibitor
Timber is a natural and beautiful material often used in a variety of interior and exterior applications. However, one common issue with wood, especially in outdoor environments, is the occurrence of tannin stains. These yellowish-brown marks, caused by tannins in the wood, can bleed through finishes and ruin the appearance of your timber surfaces. To prevent this, Treatex Stain Inhibitor offers an effective solution that protects your timber from tannin stains, ensuring your wood maintains its beauty.
Treatex Stain Inhibitor is a specialised and easy-to-apply primer designed to prevent tannins from migrating to the surface of the timber, helping to preserve the appearance of your wood. Ideal for exterior timbers, this product is highly recommended for use on wood species with high tannin levels. When used in combination with Treatex Classic Colour Collection, it creates a protective barrier that ensures your timber is not only stain-free but also beautifully finished.
This product is ideal for various timber species, including:
● Oak
● Teak
● Cedar
● Idigbo
● Mahogany
Usage/Coverage
2.5L will cover approximately 30m² in one coat, depending on the timber and method of application.
We strongly recommend a trial application before starting a project using this product.
Preparation/Application
Preparation
For optimal results, ensure that the timber is clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Any previous finishes must be completely removed before application. If you're working with exterior timbers susceptible to decay, such as those exposed to moisture or fungi, it’s advised to first treat them with Treatex Preservative. The moisture content of the timber should be below 18%, and the temperature during both the application and drying processes should be above 8ºC.
Application
Stir the product in the tin thoroughly before and during use to ensure an even consistency.
Using a brush or roller, apply the Treatex Stain Inhibitor in the direction of the wood grain.
Apply approximately 85ml per square meter, ensuring full coverage.
Allow the product to dry for 24 hours before applying an overcoat of Treatex Classic Colour Collection.
Tips
● For the best results, smooth out any sharp edges on the timber before applying the Treatex Stain Inhibitor.
● Clean brushes and rollers with warm, soapy water immediately after use to maintain their longevity. We have a wide range of both brushes and rollers available on our online store, should you need to purchase them.
● Store tins in a cool, frost-free environment. Unopened tins can last for up to three years, while opened tins should be transferred to smaller, airtight containers for best results.
